How I got here...

In the beginning of 2014 I decided it was time to end my previous career as a playwright and start working on building a buisness that would be more financially sustainable. I wanted something that would allow me to work from home, not require sitting in front of a computer all day, and something that could still serve as a creative outlet.

In college I had worked in the costume shop and I enjoyed the construction aspect of the work but knew that clothing manufacturing was not for me. I then thought of my father, uncles and grandfather whose carpentry work I have always admired. I wondered how I could combine my sewing experience with a desire to learn more about wood working. And so... upholstery.

I started with a class at City College and quickly decided I needed to increase my rate of learning. Thanks to nothing but great fortune I met Gilbert Herrera of Gil's Upholstery. Gil took me under his wing and remains my mentor to this day.

Along the way I have also studied drape and shade construction with Berna Alvarez, sewing and drapes with Franciscan Interiors, and antique furniture restoration with Francesca Ragusa of Moebel Klinik in Berlin, Germany.
